We built the software we wish we'd had.

I'm Johnny Ouyang. ezgreen.app started with our own marriage green card application. My wife is from China, we decided not to hire a lawyer to save the money. Then we did what most people do: watched every tutorial video we could find and followed along.

The videos were easy enough to follow. The actual work was not. The pile of paperwork kept growing, and every time we thought we were nearly done, something else turned out to be missing. The forms were worse. You can read a question, understand every word of it, and still not know what it wants from you. The answers depend on each other too, so filling in one section sends you back to change another. And the official instructions only come in English. We would go over the same sentence again and again and still not feel sure enough to write anything down.

Getting everything together took us weeks. We filed, and the green card came through. But I kept thinking about how much of that we never needed to go through in the first place. So we built the tool we wish we had back then.

Everything in ezgreen.app comes from what we went through ourselves. We built it from the applicant's side and kept working on it until it was what we would have wanted in front of us at the time, so that whoever files next takes fewer wrong turns than we did and gets their green card with less trouble.
